Don't float a boat

DAN

Brilliant day. Brilliant heat.
Breakfast at guest house. Turtle, red crab.
Walking with wildlife. Jumping fish in canals. Massive butterflies.
Scorching sun. Sweat and grease layer.
Art bits, house. Lovely cafe and temple up the hill.
Walking to beach. Extreme heat, cat guest house on Lake.  Swimming in sea.
Magic evening, drummers, fireworks, festival. Food on skewers.
The walk back at a night, bear talk, sudden music. Looking for fireflies.

This was our day on Naoshima, the "honest island"
The island is renowned for it's artwork, both big and small pieces
It also has lots of art galleries and museums
There are also lots of little statues of this guy
Quite a few lovely hidden temples...
... up hill paths through the bamboo forest
Everywhere you go there are statues watching
Some of them don't look too friendly
We walked through the forest and past a lake
It was the hotest day that I think I've ever experienced
Cicadas were falling out of the air and dying at our feet
Then we went swimming on a deserted beach
As night fell we heard drums in the distance, we followed them...
And found a "hana-bi" festival on another beach
Just when we thought it was over the drums started again
And the big display began
A good day

  1. Hope you're keeping your T-shirt on, you don't want sun-burn. What's bear talk?
